From design to execution?

The vehicle that recently zoomed out of control from one of the St Regis Hotel's illegal and dangerous exits was driven by a staff valet. The car careered from the hotel onto the sidewalk, across Soi Mahadlekluang 2, up a grass bank and onto the sidewalk opposite, before hitting the boundary wall of the Four Seasons Hotel.

Luckily, this particular "circus" act was staged without any fatalities. That is even more miraculous taking into account the number of highly intoxicated six-star morons exiting the hotel's car park (known locally as the "killer ramp") at the same time. Some were even unable to drive in a straight line, but that's another issue.

Since its opening in 2011, the hotel has been frequently warned of the likelihood of such incidents. This one was not the first; nor will it be the last. However, the continued failure of management to pay heed to such warnings is proof enough that the entire property remains totally out of control, from both operational and legal angles. In fact, the blatant unwillingness of this troupe of clowns to show any regard for either local or international law borders on criminality, not least because the structure itself has so seriously failed to adhere to building regulations. That's what makes the whole area so dangerous for residents and guests.

Having just lost an important legal battle in Singapore, it is surely time for the operator, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc, to drop its arrogance, wake up to its current state of denial and evaluate more effectively the vast quantity of evidence already in its possession. Once held in high esteem, this US corporation has apparently lost all sense of direction, in the manner of its drivers. Investors should be on high alert.
