Thai duo shuttled out of Hong Kong

Thailand's world No 19 duo Duanganong Aroonkesorn/Kunchala Voravichitchaikul was overpowered by Shizuka Matsuo/Mami Naito in the women's doubles quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships yesterday.

The Thais' disappointing 12-21 13-21 loss to the Japanese fourth seeds and world No 5 left world No 14 Porntip Buranaprasertsuk as the Kingdom's lone hope in the tournament. The Vietnam Open champion was due to take on Germany's Juliane Schenk, fifth seed and Singapore Open champ, in last night's women's singles quarter-finals.
