About 2,000 highrise buildings in Bangkok have not had direct quakeproof features but are able to accommodate minor shakes, according to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).
"They are designed to deal with wind load and shear strength. So, they can withstand moderate quakes," Winai Limsakul said Tuesday as the head of BMA Public Works Department.
He explained that all the buildings constructed before the 2007 Building Control Act were not required to have quakeproof designs.
