Sexist comments less common these days

On frequent visits to Thailand I have come to learn and compare cultures, and it has been apparent to me that Thai women enjoy a kind of second-class status and are, or pretend to be, somewhat submissive compared to always opinionated Aussie women. You tell us there is a deep-seated misogyny contained within the developed Thai language and culture, making Thai women victims (if that is not too strong) and the butt of ridicule and assumed inferiority.

It was only a few years ago that any Australian woman caught out not using her "thinking cap" was referred to as "a blonde", as if all blonde women are necessarily dim. That term is no longer heard on pain of a referral to our esteemed and unelected body known as the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission. A grand title I am sure your readers will agree. There is no perceived slight against a woman or a religious or ethnic minority the HRC does not hesitate to go into battle for, the end result being that robust opinion is dying in Australia, political correctness is now ascendant, and opinion-wise, Australians, usually so opinionated, have become as mutants - have, in effect, decided to shut up en masse and to express no opinion.

This is where Thailand may also be inexorably headed. Enjoy the argument.
