Tamarine Tanasugarn once again recovered from a first set deficit as she stunned top seed Casey Dellacqua of Australia 4-6 6-3 6-2 in the quarter-finals of the US$75,000 Dunlop World Tennis Challenge in Toyota yesterday.
Tammy has now enjoyed back-to-back rebounds, after surging from one set down to beat American Nicole Gibbs in the second round on Thursday.
"I started slow and did not concentrate well at the beginning. So I pumped myself up in the second set and she lost her focus because of some bad calls," said Tammy after the upset win against her world No 88 rival.
At three-all in the second set, two calls went against the American left-hander and the Thai took advantage of a stream of unforced errors to dominate play from thereon.
Today, Tammy faces third-seeded Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland, a player who is fond of the fast surface in Toyota.
"She is a good grass court player. The court here is fast so it suits her game. I have to start well and serve solidly."
Fellow Thai Nudnida Luangnam lost to Samantha Murray of Great Britain 2-6 7-6 (7-5) 4-6. Nudnida leaves Japan this morning to prepare for the year's last tournament, in Dubai next week.
