I don't believe everything I read in Wikipedia on Thaksin Shinawatra's biography. I found the following definition, which I believe was missed out of that: A demagogue is a political leader in a democracy who appeals to the emotions, prejudices, and ignorance of the less-educated people of a population in order to gain power and promote political motives. (Remember the slaves and amart approach.)
They exploit a fundamental weakness in democracy: because ultimate power is held by the people, nothing stops the people from giving that power to someone who appeals to the lowest common denominator of a large segment of the population.
The current wholesale take-over and intended removal of the checks and balances of a democracy are in line with this ideal. The red shirts now appealing to Constitutional Court judges directly amplify the ignorance of the mob because their prime minister wants to remove their right to appeal to the court directly. Nattawut of the DAAD disowned the red shirts as "unDAAD". So who are they demonstrating for? You know who.
