International visitors will now be able to access the "iTaiwan" Wi-Fi service during their stay in Taiwan, according to the Tourism Bureau.
More than 4,400 hotspots are available in places such as scenic spots, public transport systems and government agencies. To access iTaiwan, international visitors need to go to the bureau's visitor information centres, which are located nationwide. There, they must present a passport or entry permit to centre personnel to apply for an account number with which to activate the service. They can then use the Wi-Fi system wherever they see the iTaiwan hotspot icon. More than 7 million foreign tourists visit Taiwan annually. Visit http://eng.taiwan.net.tw.
Yangon sees more visitors
Foreign arrivals at Yangon airport during the first four months of the year jumped 44 per cent year-on-year, with Europeans accounting for about one-third. Through April, 253,136 foreign visitors arrived at Yangon airport, 67,460 of them Europeans. Among European arrivals, France was the main source market followed by Britain and Germany, according to Ministry of Hotels and Tourism figures. About 60 per cent of all arrivals in the main commercial city were from Asia, led by Thailand Japan, South Korea and China. Of the total arrivals, 64 per cent were tourists and the remainder were business travellers. - DPA
Japan's ATMs and your card
Travellers in Japan can no longer receive money at ATMs with some money cards. Maestro bank cards currently do not work at automatic tellers, according to a travel advisory from the German Foreign Ministry. And Mastercard credit cards will only work limitedly. The officials suggested vacationers check with their own bank before their trip to see if their cards will work in Japan, and if not how they can access their money. - DPA
Brisbane Museum re-opens
Photography and history are the focus at the newly re-opened Brisbane Museum, which is currently offering three special exhibits. "Light Fantastic" (running until January 27, 2014) shows the history and photos of the World Expo in 1988. The photo collection "The River" (until January 27, 2016) includes historic pictures of the Queensland capital's Brisbane River. London from the air
Tourists can now get a bird's eye view over London with a helicopter sightseeing tour with the company - The London Helicopter. The helicopter leaves 15 times a day to explore the British capital from the air. The London Helicopter is the first company to receive a licence to run the trips, according to London and Partners. Tours with the helicopter had previously only been allowed with a special permit. Tourists can decide between two routes. One tour starts downtown and travels along the Thames River over the city centre. The trip lasts about 20 minutes and costs 199 pounds (Bt9,000).
A home for pinball wizards
Pinball fans have a new destination to target as the first pinball-machine hotel in Germany opens. The hotel offers three rooms decorated with the kind of garish air-brush paintings that make pinball machines beloved at truck stops around the world, according to operating partner Petra Wronewitz. The guests of the single and one double room get to share a pinball machine reserved for them. A retro-look suite in the style of the Captain Fantastic pinball game has its own machine en suite, enabling guests to play pinball the whole night. - DPA
