As energy resources continue to be exhausted, solar energy has become an indispensable choice for energy consumption sustainability. The economy relies on rigorous domestic spending, investments, industrial activities and so forth. Large amounts of energy are being spent faster than they can be produced from the ground.
Sources of power, whether they are water, fossils and natural gas; will eventually be exhausted sooner than we expect unless solar energy becomes the primary source of power. The recent temporary shutdown of the natural gas producing plants in Myanmar in April has raised concerns for power shortage among many industries in Thailand.
The stoppage had forced several services to be suspended. Although, it did not have any significant impact on local businesses, it sure has prompted the country to be steadfast in its decision to develop solar power production.
Asian Development Bank (ADB), situated in the Philippines, has provided a loan of 85 million US dollars to Solarco, which is Thailandâs second largest private power producer, to build 3 solar energy production plants. The ADB is dedicated to improving the lives of people in Asia and the Pacific by providing loans in partnership with developing member countries and other stakeholders.
The construction project will be carried out under a public-private partnership program, which is expected to generate 57 megawatts of energy. This is the fourth time the ADB supports the energy production in Thailand. The 3 solar power plants will be situated in Nakhon Pathom and Suphan Buri provinces.
Since Thailand is located near the equator, it has greater access to solar energy supply. According to the ADB, Thailand will be able to avoid the carbon emission of 66,000 tons every year during the first 10 years of the operations of the three solar power generators. They will also raise the production of renewable energy to more than 300 megawatts by 2015, the bank added.
