Luksika Kumkhum's bid for a place in the French Open came to an end yesterday with a 6-0 7-6 (7-4) upset defeat by Sandra Zahlavova of the Czech Republic in the second qualifying round.
Seeded ninth in qualifying, the Thai was 3-1 and 40-0 up in the second set but failed to maintain her advantage on the clay surface she dislikes, going down in one hour and 37 minutes to her 208th ranked opponent.
The defeat left Thailand without a representative in the singles at Roland Garros after Varatchaya Wongteanchai was beaten by American Grace Min 6-2 6-1 and Nudnida Luangnam fell 6-1 6-4 to Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia in first-round qualifying on Wednesday.
