FDK Corporation, a subsidiary of Fujitsu Group and manufacturer of electronic components and batteries, has set up a subsidiary office in Bangkok as part of its expansion plans.
The new Bangkok office, which started operating in early April, will be responsible for boosting sales in emerging markets including Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.
Michimasa Mochizuki, FDK Corp president, said that thanks to the boost in the global market for electronic components and batteries due to the rising demands in Southeast Asia, the company had achieved 10 to 15 per cent growth last year.
"So we decided to set up an overseas subsidiary in Thailand as it has the greatest potential in Southeast Asia thanks to its economic stability, geographical advantages, strong infrastructure and logistics. We expect market and sales expansion in the long run. We also see good opportunities once the Asean Economic Community kicks off in 2015, which will drive our business goals in this region," Mochizuki said.
FDK Thailand's managing director Masaki Miura said the first task of his operation was to extend its sales office and strengthen marketing functions to revamp sales capacity in the region, including product development.
"In 2012, we launched new products, such as the PremiumG alkaline battery which has an all-time highest performance among all Fujitsu alkaline batteries, Fujitsu Rechargeable Batteries with low self-discharge characteristics and Fujitsu Smart Phone Batteries for quickly charging smart phones. Also, we have provided new storage systems that are safe to use as they leverage all of FDK's related technologies on electronic materials, batteries, and electronic devices," Miura said.
FDK will market its main products such as dry, lithium and Ni-MH batteries as well as lithium ion capacitor and electronic parts through local distributors in Thailand.
Miura explained that FDK products were based on three key concepts, including customer-centric perspective, earth-friendly and going beyond technology to create a better future.
