BANGKOK, 13 May 2013 (NNT) รข" The Energy Ministry has approved more than half a billion baht in budget to promote energy conservation among SME operators.
Energy Minister Pongsak Ruktapongpisal, revealed on Monday that the Energy Ministry has approved a budget of 581.4 million baht, as proposed by the sub-committee on energy conservation promotion fund, to help small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) cut down on energy-related costs.
Mr. Pongsak said the approved budget will be managed by the Energy Policy and Planning Office and the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency.
He added that two projects have been initiated to help SMEs, including the 420.4-billion-baht project to persuade small and medium business operators switch to use high-efficiency light bulbs and the 161-million-baht machinery and equipment upgrade project.
The Energy Minister expects more than 2,000 factories will take part in these initiatives.
He stated that both projects will not only help Thai SME cut costs but also enable the government to achieve its 20-year energy conservation campaign, while allowing the country to save as much as 700 million baht in energy expenses each year.
