Again, The Nation's cartoonist Stephff chooses to make broad sweeping stereotypes in his cartoons. He portrays foreigners as cheap, untrustworthy and tied to prostitutes; they are unaware of Thai social norms (God forbid anyone wai a person of low station); Thai prostitutes are dark-skinned, insinuating their rural origins, while good Thai girls are white. What next?
I don't say that these things never happen, but when many foreigners who come to Thailand to work are professionals, married, and are not bar-hopping drunks and lowlifes, these cartoons promote a negative image that is unnecessary. Also the racial stereotype of dark skin, fair skin and virtue is tired and inaccurate.
I think Stephff's cartoons need a good dose of reality and to stop the blanket tar-and-feathering for cheap laughs. He's not very funny, anyway.
