Korn Chatikavanij
Democrat MP Korn Chatikavanij on Thursday submitted a petition for the dismissal of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong.
In the petition signed by 131 MPs and submitted to House Speaker Nikom Wairatpanij, they charged Kittiratt of violating the Constitution's Section 270, by stalling on the proposed national pension fund. Kittiratt failed to have the fund open for applications. He also failed to allocate upto Bt1 billion to the fund and endorse the appointment of the fund's secretary-general.
In the petition, the MPs said the failure has led to over two years of delay in the establishment of the fund.
The House Speaker said the issue would be reviewed within 15 days, before being forwarded to the National Anti-Corruption Commission. If the NACC finds Kittiratt guilty as charged, he would then be dismissed.
The new national pension fund would provide a social welfare net for the 26 million self-employed and informal economy workers, who are not protected by the Social Security Fund or Government Pension Fund.
The law overseing the fund was passed in 2011.
