Bayer Thai has donated cash and animal health products worth Bt590,000 to the Phra Kochabaan Foundation, a non-government organisation in Ayutthaya that cares for and conserves elephants.

To strengthen the "Bayer: Science for a Better Life" mission, the local company has a strong commitment to applying its German parent's science into the major global challenges in order to deliver innovative solutions that address unmet customer and market needs.

With more than 100 different animal health products worldwide, Bayer's Animal Health Division is one of the most successful suppliers in the field of veterinary medicine.

The donation to the Phra Kochabaan Foundation is part of a two-year "Bayer Cares for Elephants" programme run by the local subsidiary aimed at promoting the welfare of the foundation's pachyderms.

Since 2005, the foundation has been helping and protecting Thai elephants and encouraging the culture of nurturing the gentle giants.

During the donation ceremony, which took place on December 21, Celina Chew, managing director of Bayer Thai, and Ernst Boettcher, general manager of Bayer's Animal Health Division, handed over products as well as cash to Michelle Reedy, operation director of the foundation, and Ewa Narkiewicz, communications director, for use in elephant care at the retirement facilities of the NGO.

"As Bayer Thai has been working in Thailand for 50 years, we would like to express our goodwill to Thai society as well as help improve the animals' living conditions. Elephants are recognised as one of Thailand's symbols. Accordingly, we initiate this activity in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bayer Thai, while helping the great work of the Phra Kochabaan Foundation, and Elephantstay[retirement facilities], in Thailand as well," said Boettcher.
