Beijing - A Tibetan monk died after self-immolating inside the Kirti Buddhist monastery in south-western China's Sichuan province, reports said Sunday.
Lobsang Thokmey, 28, set fire to himself in his room and ran through the monastery in Sichuan's Ngaba county Saturday afternoon, US-based Radio Free Asia and the Indian-based Tibetan exile government said.
He died later in hospital, the broadcaster quoted two Indian-based exiled monks from Kirti as saying.
Security forces seized Lobsang Thomkey's body and removed it form the hospital, the exile government said.
The protest was timed to mark the anniversary of a government crackdown in Ngaba on March 16, 2008, when troops shot and killed up to 10 protesters, according to Tibetan exile groups.
More than 100 Tibetans have set fire to themselves in China since 2009, most of them in the past two years. Many of the previous self-immolations were at Kirti or in nearby areas of Ngaba./DPA
