BANGKOK, 27 February 2013 (NNT)-Thailand is taking serious action against intellectual property right violations now that the center for tackling such crime has been established to coordinate greater prevention efforts.

The Ministry of Commerce has instructed the Department of Intellectual Property to set up the center for intellectual property crime prevention to put a stop to copyright infringements.

According to Deputy Commerce Minister Nattawut Saikuea, the center is now officially known as one of the government’s arms in dealing with IP right violations.

Mr. Nattawut said the center’s first meeting will take place on March 4th, 2013 with participants from 25 relevant units. They will be divided into 4 groups according to their roles and responsibilities. They will be overseeing the prosecution process, legal matters, public relations and encouraging those committing IP crimes to find another career path.
