Ranger killed, 2 wounded in Yala explosion on pickup truck

YALA, 12 March 2013 (NNT) â€" A ranger has been killed in an explosion in Yala province that also wounded 2 other soldiers and damaged the pickup truck they were using.

The incident occurred on a road in Ban Topake, Wangphaya sub-district, Raman district. The rangers who made up the casualties were from the 41st Rangers Regiment.

Officials in Yala responding to the incident said the pickup truck had recently been sent to a repair shop, and a bomb might have been hidden underneath the driver’s seat while the truck was undergoing maintenance. However the authorities are not ruling out the possibility of the case being an accident, as one of the soldiers could have dropped a grenade he was carrying on the truck.

Officials said a more detailed inspection of evidence at the scene was required.
