Kiradech finishes fourth at New Delhi

NEW DELHI - Thomas Aiken of South Africa collected his second European Tour title with a three shot victory at the Avantha Masters.

Winner Thomas Aiken and his wife show off the champion's trophy, won by the South African on Sunday at the Avantha Masters in India.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat finished fourth, the only Thai who managed to keep championship form after several Thais had dominated the tournament at the halfway point.

India's Gaganjeet Bhullar and China's Liang Wen-chong both launched worthy challenges during the final round – the latter recording a hole-in-one at the seventh – but Aiken held firm to sign for a five under par 67 and 23 under total at Jaypee Greens Golf Spa Resort.

"I've been playing very nicely the last four months, not making a lot of mistakes, but just not sinking enough putts," said Aiken.

"This week a few went in, I hit some better iron shots which gave me a better chance to sink some putts, and I played some phenomenal golf."

The most disappointed golfer in the field was Thongchai Jaidee, who shot his best round on Sunday, a 69 that left him tied for 45th place.

Thongchai entered the tournament with high hopes of winning - because first place would have landed him an automatic invitation to return to the Masters tournament next month.

Instead, after four barely average days when he never was in contention, Thongchai will have to watch the year's first major on TV.

Other Thais who finished in the money included Chapchai Nirat in 17th place, Chinnarat Phadungsil (23rd), Prom Meesawat (29th) and Chawalit, who had only one bad round - on Saturday - and finished tied for 34th place as a result. Veteran Boonchu Ruangkit was tied with Chawalit.
