BANGKOK, 28 March 2013 (NNT) â€" The government is set to defend the draft act authorizing the Finance Ministry to borrow 2 trillion baht, during a debate in Parliament this week.

PM’s Office Minister Varathep Ratanakorn said on Wednesday that the government’s proposal of the draft law to authorize the borrowing of 2 trillion baht for the infrastructure investment plan will be up for debate during March 28 and 29.

Mr. Varathep said the government whip has also been asked to arrange for a special allocation of time slot for the Cabinet to present its case and respond to questions related to the draft law during the 2-day Parliamentary debate.

He stated that all ministers involved in the draft bill are ready to present their cases as well.

The PM’s Office Minister confirmed that the draft law, if passed, will still allow for the amendment to the details and the budgeting of all projects while the government’s implementation will always be open for scrutiny.

Mr. Varathep also asserted that the first reading of the draft bill will only aim for an approval in principle, and not the actual passing of the law until it completes the second and the third readings.
