Commerce Ministry to further cooperation on food trade with Bahrain

BANGKOK, 28 February 2013 (NNT) â€" The Commerce Ministry is determined to further promote collaboration with Bahrain, in another bid to strengthen the Thai government’s “Kitchen of the World” initiative.

Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom said that Thailand and Bahrain have been discussing about the signing of an MOU on food security, trade and farm product cooperation, during the latest visit of Mr. Hasan Bin Abdullah, Bahrain’s Minister of Industry and Trade, to the country.


Mr. Boonsong stated that the Thai government has been working on the promotion of the food industry under the “Kitchen of the World” campaign in international market.


And with Thailand’s years of experience in Halal food production, which has been widely recognized by consumers around the world, the government has convinced Bahrain and other Middle Eastern countries to choose Thailand as their kitchen.


The Commerce Minister added Thailand is also planning to set up its distribution center in Bahrain, to help it connect with Saudi Arabia and Qatar as well other countries nearby.


He went on to say that Bahrain was Thailand’s 13th largest trade partner in 2012, with total trade value of 429 million baht.
