BANGKOK, 23 February 2013 – The newly appointed South Korean ambassador meets with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra ahead of her visit to South Korea during 24-25th February.

During the meeting between the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Chon Jae Man (ชอน แจ มัน) and the Thai prime minister, the ambassador thanked Thailand for its humanitarian and military support for South Korea in the Korean War, in which about 100 Thai soldiers were killed and 1,200 injured.

The Ambassador also appreciated the prime minister's upcoming visit to the South Korea, scheduled for Feb 24-25 February. During his term as ambassador, he intended to strengthen the Thai-Korean bilateral ties, he said.

Ms Yingluck congratulated the ambassador on his commencing on the post as South Korea's ambassador to Thailand. The PM then thanked South Korean investors for their continued investment in Thailand's infrastructure and, especially, their interest in the Dawei deep-water seaport in Myanmar, a 200-billion-baht project that the Thai government hopes will serve as Thailand's new logistic hub.

The visit by the prime minister to South Korea would be the first official visit by either countries in 31 years. South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan (ชุน à¸"ู-ฮวัน) visited Thailand in 1982.
