Siriraj begins distance education in prosthetic therapies for foreign practitioners

BANGKOK, 14 February 2013 (NNT) â€" A Thai school for prosthetics and orthotics has agreed with a German organization to launch the long-distance prosthetic course for overseas practitioners.

The Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics and Orthotics (SSPO), Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, has joined hands with Germany’s Human Study e. V. establishing a Distant Learning Education in International Program between the two institutes. The MOU has been signed, on February 13th, to expand the opportunity for international students to access distant learning program, under cooperation between Siriraj and the Human Study e. V.


According to theDean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Clinical Professor Udom Kachintorn, the SSPO’s prosthetic and orthotic courses have been recognized by the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) as a category 1 school, or the top level.


As up to 30 international students enrolled in the course would have to take leave of absence to study in Thailand; the Human Study e. V., a humanitarian organization, therefore, decided to open up the long-distance learning course so they can study from their home countries.


The agreement is expected to enhance the knowledge of prosthetic and orthotic personnel across the globe.
