Thailand's Nootsara Tomkom won "the Best Setter" award for the Volleyball Globe 2012 following a landslide 3,863-1,143 victory over USA's Carli Lloyd in the voting showdown concluded late Wednesday night.
It was another remarkable success of the 28-year-old from Ratchaburi, who had won the similar award from several top-flight volleyball tournaments including the 2009 Asian Championship in Hanoi, where the Thai women's volleyball team made history to win the Asian crown for the first time, and the last year's AVC Cup for Women, which the Thai team also made their mark to land the title for the first time, and the FIVB World Grand Prix, where the team finished an amazing fourth place in the Finals in Ningbo, China.
As for the Volleyball Globe, the awards for men's and women's players in various positions - setter, spiker, opposite spiker, middle blocker, libero and coach - would be announced on line through www.volleyball.it, with the eventual winner from each position obtaining the highest votes during the given voting period. In terms of the best setter award, a total of 16 outstanding setters around the globe have been named for the award. Nootsara beat USA's Lindsay Berg 297-206 in the first round. The Thai darling later knocked Naz Aydemir of Turkey out in the second round after winning 665-215 in the vote. The third round or the semi-final clash saw Nootsara outclass Josefa Souza "Fabiola" of Brazil 578-387. In the final round, where volleyball.it viewers from around the world could vote in the limited period for their favourite player from 6am of February 21 to 11.59pm of February 27 (Italy time as the website volleyball.it has been initiated in Italy), Nootsara was no surprise winner as she overwhelmed Carli Lloyd of the USA 3,863-1,143 at the conclusion of the campaign. Congratulations the Thai setter on her success in the global volleyball.
