BANGKOK, 26 February 2013 – Maka Bucha Day has sent Buddhist crowds into temples and celebration grounds around Bangkok and other parts of the country.

People yesterday flocked to Buddhist temples in Bangkok to make merits by offering food and other basic necessities to monks. They also took part in the candlelit procession around pagodas, stupas or prayers' halls.

At the main celebration at the Royal Plaza in Bangkok, crowd came to pay homage to the Lord Buddha's relic and a replica of the Emerald Buddha, borrowed for temporary display from Wat Maha That Yuwarat Rangsarit. Other activities included listening to dharma sermons and praying.

Wat Boworn Niwet Vihara also saw a large number of Buddhists participating in the candlelit procession around its prayers' hall as a way of making merits. Earlier in the morning, Buddhists offered food to monks and went to temples to listen to sermons.

Meanwhile, the Crown Property Bureau, with coorperation of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Buddhadasa Bukkhu Archives, organised a "Full Moon Meditation Night" to celebrate the 100th birthday anniversary of the Supreme Patriarch, His Holiness Somdet Phra Niyarnassamvara.
