Digital TV auction may be postponed to fourth quarter

The spectrum auction of 24 digital commercial TV channels may be delayed to the fourth quarter this year from the original expected in August as public hearing process on the related regulations may take times, according to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).

The NBTC board Monday approved the draft rules on the spectrum selection for digital television broadcasting after it had been revised by its broadcasting committee. This draft rule will go for public hearing later.

Under this rule, the NBTC's broadcasting panel must hold a public hearing on another draft rule that will include key details in Information Memorandum (IM), including bidder specifications, frequency plan, starting bid price and other key conditions. This rule is still on drafting process.
