Unfortunately, you quoted me wrong. It read ''In price-pledging schemes, buying any produce for higher than market prices should be prohibited.''
Instead it should have read ''In price pledging-schemes, pledging any produce for higher than market prices should be prohibited.''
In my facebook notes, I said if any government wants to subsidise farmers by buying produce for higher than market prices, it should be prohibited from doing so in the form of pledging. The misquote twists the facts. Because in reality, the government is simply buying. The government should therefore be pressed to do it in the legal form of purchasing. All government purchases have to comply with rules set by the Ministry of Finance. It will help combat corruption and ensure subsidies reach the farmers in full, instead of being siphoned off by the mills.

I enjoyed Luke Hunt's column on 2012 events concerning Asean.
However, he writes that the Philippines were disappointed over Manny Pacquiao's ''first defeat''.
A bit of research would have informed Mr Hunt this was the 5th defeat in Manny's still distinguished career.

Giving the true picture
In response to two recent letters on TrueVisions' monthly magazine, we would like to clarify and provide some rationale behind the changes.
Firstly, let us look at what the changes are: What we have done is consolidate schedules from Extra Magazine and Premiere magazine. By doing this, we are able to show prime time information for more channels on one page, which makes it easier to plan viewing at a glance. For the majority of readers, this is a highly practical and welcome change. For readers who require schedules outside of prime time, we will continue to provide them on request, in the form of a separate listing.
TrueVisions went through an enormous undertaking in 2012 with the massive roll-out of our HD Plus set-top-box. In addition to being able to receive HD channels, this new box also has an EPG system, which provides not only programme names, times and full synopses in both English and Thai for up to seven days, but it can also set programme reminders and record programmes with the PVR option.
We have also developed an application for tablet and iPhone users which can be downloaded free from the App Store. This contains a full electronic version of our magazine, plus a TV guide function which can also browse the full schedule for up to seven days and set reminders. With the new set-top-box, IOS application and our website, there is more information than ever in both English and Thai.
When one sees the whole picture, it is clear information is not being cut back. Rather, it is being enhanced and improved and being made available in more places where more people can gain access to it in an easier manner _ for free.
TrueVisions is actually the only cable TV provider in the region which still supplies a printed magazine for free. We are confident subscribers will be happy with the new layout and programme information but we will continue to monitor feedback closely. Until we are sure we have fully met customer expectations, we are happy to provide a separate listing of detailed schedules, similar to our old Extra magazine.
