BANGKOK, 15 January 2013 (NNT) Ă¢" The government has rejected claims that it will soon run out of storage space for the state-initiated rice pledging scheme.
Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom, on Monday, affirmed that the government still has more-than-enough storage space to take in rice stocks, under its rice pledging scheme.
The Commerce MinisterĂ¢s affirmation came out after earlier news reports suggested some participating millers have complained that their warehouses will soon be full.
Mr. Boonsong stated that he has instructed the Internal Trade Department, the Public Warehouse Organization, and the Marketing Organization for Farmers to approve additional central storage space to accommodate more rice supply.
The Commerce Minister said that, so far, more than 9 million tons of rice have been accepted into the scheme while expressing confidence that there will be no less than 10 million tons pledged with the government by the end of February, as planned.
