BANGKOK, 22 January 2013 – Chartthaipattana Party Leader Chumpol Silpa-archa has passed away due to heart failure on Monday. He was 73 years old.
After his collapse on December 17 following breathing difficulty which prompted him to stay in Ramathibodi Hospital for a month, Mr Chumpol passed away of heart failure at 9.30 am on Monday. Funeral rites are scheduled at Wat Thepsirin.
Born on June 6th, 1940 in Suphanburi, Mr Chumpol was a son of Mr Seng Kim and Mrs Eng Saebae. He was the younger brother of former Prime Minister Banharn Silapa-archa.
Mr Chumpol graduated from Amnuay Silpa School and continued his study in law at Thammasat University. He further studied Master of Public Administration at Syracuse University in the US.
Towards the end of his life, he held positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism and Sports Minister under the Yingluck administration.
