W Singapore Sentosa Cove is a funky place to stay though going out on the town can prove a hassle

If you want more from your hotel than just a clean, quiet place to sleep, W Singapore Sentosa Cove is the place for you. Launched just a few months ago, W Singapore tastefully incorporates art, music, fashion and design while offering comfort and superb service to vacationers, business travellers and couples after a bit of sass in their stay.

The W brand is known for its unique approach to the hospitality business. By infusing trendy music, cutting-edge fashion and innovative arts with quality service and facilities, W Singapore is a fun place to stay and doesn't intimidate with its coolness and artsy flair. Instead, it makes you feel as if a trendsetter has opened his or her super-large house and invited you to hang for a few nights.

Inspired by the dynamic cosmopolitan lifestyle and Sentosa's natural surroundings, W Singapore offers 240 guestrooms in eight categories from simple yet elegant to big, bold and over the top.

The rooms are not just attractive but fully equipped with decent features. Amplify your downtime with in-room entertainment ranging from an iPod docking station to a 40-inch LED TV and DVD player and connect via complimentary high-speed Internet access. Freshen up in the rainforest shower or separate bathtub with exclusive Bliss Spa sink-side amenities before wrapping yourself up in a robe and slippers and retreating to the signature W pillow-top bed with 350-thread-count sheets, a down comforter and your choice from the W pillow menu for a rejuvenating night's sleep.

In higher room categories, you'll have a sizeable terrace and plunge pool, day bed, Jacuzzi tub, dining area and even a bar and pantry. The ultimate luxe category is the 195-square-metre Extreme Wow Suite that can accommodate several guests and a full-on house party. You'll get a 10-person dining area, kitchenette with a bar, foyer with pantry, massive terrace with plunge pool, DJ booth and Bang Olufsen LED IPTV. The suite is on a higher level of the hotel with a decent view of the South China Sea and the marina.

Other facilities include the 1,300sqm Wet pool equipped with underwater speakers and a bar, the Woo Bar where there's a happening most nights, 24-hour business centre, a gym and Away Spa. The hotel has two dining outlets: the 24-hour Kitchen Table, which offers sumptuous international cuisine and modern grill restaurant Skirt that serves hearty meat and seafood dishes.

W Singapore is a great option if you plan to just relax and unwind in a fun, happening place rather than in a library-quiet, isolated resort or hotel where it can get lonely at night. You'll hear electronica everywhere you go, in all the outlets and even when you're doing laps in the pool. Though soothing and not too loud, it could be annoying if it's not your kind of music. Even the lift is booming with danceable music!

And if your plan is to get out and explore the city, W Singapore might not be the best choice. The hotel is nestled in a nice green space deep in Sentosa Island surrounded by calm, serene vibes but it's far from everything. The nearest attraction is Universal Studio, which is 20 to 30 minutes away on foot, or the Vivo City shopping mall, which involves a cab ride across the bridge. It's not easy to find a cab by yourself and public buses are impossible. However, the hotel offers a shuttle service to several major attractions a few times a day.

At a glance

High points: The décor is funky and interesting, incorporating fashion, music and design without being too in-your-face. The rooms are compact but fully equipped and comfortable. The pool is nice and the food is decent.

Low points: There are not a lot of attractions nearby, and it is a bit far from town. The hotel is not very suitable for families with small children.

Pay for it: Rates start from SGD388 (Bt9,800) until March 31, 2013

Find it: 21 Ocean Way, Singapore
