Re: "Attack on daughter shows irrational hate of Thaksin", Letters, December 3.

I agree with Songdej Praditsmanont that Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the daughter of Thaksin, was born unlucky. We should sympathise with her for having been treated so unkindly.

Thais who feel the same way should help solve this problem. One way is for us to tell Thaksin to stop hurting the country by remote control, as he is doing, and thus inciting even more hatred. Allow me to explain:

First, Thaksin, in controlling the government, has allowed his confidants and some of his relatives to take advantage of the country. Corruption and influence-peddling are rampant. All this happens behind Thaksin's back. There is no chance Thaksin can know the real truth, or do anything about it.

Hence, the more these elements misbehave, the more discontentment and hatred are heaped on Thaksin, for we know he is behind these people.

Second, most people Thaksin entrusts to look after his political interests here are crooked and ambitious. The more Thaksin relies on them, the more divided the country will become. Every destructive thing they do will only make people hate Thaksin even more, for we know he is backing them behind the scenes. Hence, Thaksin should start using his head by changing his mind. If he really loves his children and soon-to-come grandchildren, quitting is the thing to do.
