'Innovation Thailand' winners announced

Winners for eight categories of Thai innovations have been selected and announced.



The announcement was made Friday in a project under cooperation between the Intellectual Property Department of Commerce Ministry and Google.



The event was held to promote Thai innovation and creativity by highlighting the key factors that contribute to the country's continued creativity with the publication of a research report entitled "Innovation Thailand."



The winners were called "Innovation Idols Thailand" and they Thai role models who use the Internet creatively and innovatively and these announcements intend to increase the potential for economic growth so that the country will be ready to join the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).



Intellectual Property Director-General Mrs Pajchima Tanasanti said her department was glad to support this Innovation Thailand project in order to promote innovation and creativity as well as to enhance the intellectual property of Thais.



"The department believes that a way to develop this effectively would be to integrate policy guidelines with various agencies and organizations in many dimensions. The Department realizes the importance of technology and particularly of the Internet which is capable of being used for creativity and innovation and for developing more commercial intellectual property while also being a medium to encourage respect for intellectual property rights and believes that it would enable an intellectual property network to be built at all levels in the future," she added.



In drawing up the procedures for Innovation Thailand during meetings among innovation and creativity stakeholders in Thailand, four main factors that drive innovation were identified:



● Access and infrastructure



● Education and the development of human resources



● Regulations and governance



● Distributed access to investment capital



Innovation and creativity are essential for all industry sectors and businesses in order to drive Thailand's future growth and development with the Internet being a tool for the rapid advance of innovation in various forms. The Innovation Idol group comprises the names of several Thais who have played a role in innovation and creativity and who have been evaluated and selected and who are honored to be the first Innovation Thailand idols.

Ariya Banomyong, Country Head, Google Thailand said "Internet is the most efficient infrastructure for creativity, for the exchange of ideas as well as for the creation of jobs. Internet plays an important role in helping to make work easier, whether this is for work performed independently or done in collaboration with others. Entrepreneurs and artists around the world can reach out to communities anywhere in the world quickly and without any barriers blocking access to their target audience. The Internet helps small ideas to change the world with access to information and by enabling people to work together quickly and conveniently in ways that never existed before."
