Drunken Brit flees to his death

When three British tourists were thrashed by a group of Thai men on Walking Street, the Brits ran to the sea and jumped into the water. Two men escaped; the third—28-year-old Patrick Lawrence Molloy–drowned.

Somphot Sukhanthapruek, a 43-year-old security guard at Marine Yensabai Hotel, together with 25-year-old Pramek Maokramon and 37-year-old Somkid Wernkrathok were suspected of beating and chasing the tourists. They were not found on the night of the incident, but turned themselves in to the police the following day. Their explanation matched the images and video from the Marine Yensabai Hotel surveillance camera. They said the farang entered the hotel drunk and molested a Thai woman in the lobby. She yelled at them and they looked like they were going to assault her more, so a security guard, Yongyut Sompimai, 50, intervened, but one of the drunks kicked him in the leg causing him to fall.

The three tourists made their exit and were chased by the hotel's other security guard, Somphot, until the men jumped into the sea. The Thai men are out on bail while Pattaya police continue their investigation. It was later reported that Malloy was recently released from an English prison; he had been convicted of a violent assault in a bar.
