Released in time for the holiday season, Countdown is certainly a contender for strangest premise of the year. Three students are getting ready for New Year's Eve and are looking for a little chemical lift for the occasion. A drug-dealing Jesus shows up with the goods, but the students are not ready for the kind of party he intends to throw and their celebration turns into a nightmare. Pattarasaya ''Peak'' Kreuasuwansiri talks to Brunch about her character, Pam, a shallow, fragile party girl who's taken to the Big Apple in a big way.
How did you feel when you first read the script of 'Countdown'?
Oh, I loved it. The woman whose role I play lives her life to the extreme, partying hard, doing drugs and getting herself in life-threatening situations.
Is this your first horror movie?
Yes, it is. However, the movie isn't all about frantically running away from a psychopath. There's a bit of comedy and drama as well, and also several action scenes.
Have you shared any experiences with Pam, your character? Like living in New York with roommates or encountering a psychopath?
I've never been to New York, though I would love to, and actually have never had a roommate because my parents wouldn't allow it. No real psychopath encounters either, but I did have to deal with some sick person who kept calling me and making funny noises. I had to change my number. That was disturbing.
You play Pam, a lonely, spoiled dressy party girl, who pretends to be tough to hide her vulnerability and longs for a man to save her. How did you connect with her character, which seems to be totally different from you?
My boyfriend, Ter Chantawit [Tanasewi, also an actor whose credits include the comedies Kuan Muen Ho (Hell Stranger) and ATM Er Rak Error] helped me with the script. I also consulted with my acting coach and director to help me understand the soul of this character. I feel for her so much.
Is Pam as sexy as your characters in your sleeper hits 'Sai Lub Jub Ban Lek' and 'Rak Sam Sao'?
Definitely. My character Pam is a confident, fashionable girl. She exudes sexiness through the way she speaks, struts and dresses.
What is the most difficult scene in the movie?
The bathtub scene. I felt a little claustrophobic shooting in the tub for hours. Another is when my character smokes pot. That's really tough because I had to laugh a lot for no reason since she was high.
Will viewers learn anything from the movie?
There is a lesson: Don't run into trouble, guys.
If you could change the script, how would you like it to read when Pam enters her apartment and faces the terror of her life?
Well, instead of finding a sick drug dealer waiting for me, I'd rather see a flowery field on a hill. How about that?
Jesus, the drug dealer, tells you he has the best pot. How would you counter that in your own script?
I'd say my cupcakes are better and legal. That burns!
In real life, how do you celebrate New Year's Eve?
I normally have dinner with my family or throw a small party at home. I don't like to go out to a crowded place. Last year my mum and I did the New Year's chanting together at home. I just wanted to take time off to meditate. And then we watched fireworks from the bedroom window. I had been so busy all year, so it was good to spend time with my mum.
What is your dream role?
A romantic one like the female lead in The Notebook.
Preferably opposite your real-life man?
Not necessarily (laughs).
