Scriptwriting duo Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson (The Borgias) are teaming up with Oscar-winning writer David Seidner (A King's Speech) for a new NBC series about George Washington, reveals Variety.

The series will attempt to shed light on the man rather than the president, as Seidler explains: "There's George Washington the national icon, gazing out from the dollar bill with his mouthful of supposedly wooden teeth, and then there's the George Washington who had an adulterous affair with his best friend's wife."
HBO, which has run a number of political-themed series over the years, had already tackled the period with a 2008 mini-series about John Adams, who became the second president of the US after Washington. The series, starring Paul Giamatti in the title role, was a hit, earning 13 Emmy Awards and four Golden Globes.
