Quake has no effects on Thai dams

The powerful earthquake which struck central Myanmar on Sunday morning made no adverse effects on two major dams in Kanchanburi province, directors of the two dams said.


Boon-in Chuenchavalit an Vanich Saengsuwan, directors of Sinakarin and Vajiralongkorn damsof the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, said the two dams are strong and can withstand a strong quake.


The two dams have been very well maintained and regularly checked to ensure their strength with internationally-recognised measures.


The last security check on Vajiralongkorn Dam was conducted on July 21, 2010 and Sinakarin Dam on Jan 26, 2011.
