Police just do what they feel like

Re: Military will not step in to control protesters.

Defence minister Sukampol said the government would not need to suppress the Pitak Siam group rally because the police were capable enough to handle the situation. This view was taken by the Democrat government in 2010 to their cost, when the police were noticeable by their absence, although it is fair to say that those were armed protesters.

Meanwhile Sondhi Limthongkul complains that the police have taken 10 months to summon him over allegations of supporting a military coup. In the news yesterday, it was reported that the 20 years overdue resolution to criminal events which have caused diplomatic problems with Saudi Arabia were being held up because a convicted ex-police colonel needed as a witness is living in hiding abroad and cannot be interviewed because they would have to arrest him. Compare this with a police chief who was awarded a loyalty gong by a convicted ex-police colonel evading justice abroad in Hong Kong and saw no reason to arrest him.

I am sure Defence Minister Sukampol knows that the police do as they darn well please, which could be said of the rest of his government.
