Oil Fund's levy on diesel cut

Written By Unknown on Wednesday 28 November 2012 | 07:31

The Energy Policy and Planning Committee slashes the Oil Fund's levy on diesel by 50 satang per litre to Bt0.70.

Effective tomorrow, this decision will maintain retail diesel oil prices. In Bangkok, diesel is retailed at Bt29.79 a litre.

The government has maintained the policy to keep diesel price below Bt30 per litre.

The levy cut will reduce the Oil Fund's daily revenue from Bt68.33 million to Bt41.63 million, said Norkhun Sitthiphong, energy permanent secretary as chairman of the committee.

At the meeting today, the committee also approved the action plan, to prepare for the abolishment of 91-octane petrol sale. From January 1, refineries will stop producing the product. The sale would be abolished three months after that in order to clear stocks, forcing all motorists to turn to gasohol 91.

The Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency Department is assigned to set up service centres, to provide engine adjustment for cars which are not compatible with gasohol products.
