Living it up

Let's go back a few years; Singapore was under attack; being branded boring and merely a stop-over destination. For me, arriving in 2012, it's hard to comprehend. Nowadays, you hear of Singapore being awarded with coveted awards, not just throughout Asia, worldwide too. I find the city-state's reputation of being mediocre has long gone, in its place are stories of vibrance, opportunity and excitement.

I am looking across all parameters here, Singapore is growing and when it hits the headlines it's positive more often than not.The opening of Marina Bay Sands in 2010 certainly upped the ante, bringing with it high-end space for exhibitions, conferences, shopping, food beverage facilities, clubs and of course the acclaimed casino and hotel.

Once unlikely bedfellows, now even young, sexy and lively brands are chumming up to Singapore. The increased activity didn't pass the watchful eye of Starwood's W brand who officially launched  W Singapore – Sentosa Cove, a collaboration with Singapore-based City Developments Limited, in October this year.

It's been a mere matter of weeks and already W Singapore – Sentosa Cove is making its mark on Singapore's social circuit. It's elegant, trendy and hip – everything Singapore now is.  Amongst the plethora of events and awards that it has played host, W Singapore – Sentosa Cove has welcomed guests to its funky WOOBAR. Not one to shy away from festivities, WOOBAR's next event is set to set tongues wagging – Madonna: A Transformational Exhibition.

We're talking about one of the most photographed women on the planet and W Singapore – Sentosa Cove is offering Singapore unique access to view some of Madonna's never-before-seen photographs, there will also be an opportunity to buy them. The exhibition, which launches on the 15th December promises to combine music and photography.  We really are one of the lucky ones – as only a select few were included in the Madonna: A Transformational Exhibition line up.

Despite its success in Singapore, W has brought Singapore something else to write home about. The Residences at W is somewhat spectacular too. And I am not the only one that thinks it, The Residences at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove won the coveted award of Best Residential Interior Design at last week's SE Asia Property Awards.

You only have to take a short walk around to observe how aggressively Singapore's property market is developing and growing. While others cry of austerity, Singapore seems to echo resilience and I am excited to see what the future brings here in Singapore.
