A partial Cabinet meeting Friday resolved to extend the enforcement of Internal Security Act in four border districts of Songkha for another year.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra held a meeting of nine Cabinet members and resolved to extend the ISA enforcement.

Currently, the ISA is enforced in the four border districts of Songkhla while Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat are under the state of emergency.

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung said the government would try to reduce the areas under the state of emergency and would try to use the ISA enforcement instead.

Chalerm said the partial Cabinet meeting also resolved to have Defence Minister ACM Sukampol Suwannathat be in charge of the operations to restore peace in the Deep South but the prime minister will be in charge of the budget and overall situation.
