MSH International, a global healthcare insurance provider, plans to establish a new office in Bangkok as part of its expansion into the burgeoning Asean region.

Laurent Cochet, executive director, said Thailand was chosen as the location for the new regional office, as it ranks as one of the top expat destinations globally, taking into account a range of economic and lifestyle factors. It was also chosen due to its geographical location.

The government has established a clear goal of pushing Thailand as the region's "health hub" when it enters the Asean Economic Community (AEC) in the next two years, said Paul-Dominique Vacharasinthu, partner and director of MSH International (Thailand).

The company is part of Siaci Saint Honore Group in France, a multi-specialty insurance brokerage and consulting group which ranks No 1 for international healthcare insurance; group retirement plans; marine, logistics and supply chain insurance; and construction insurance.

MSH International provides services internationally to mobile individuals, families and employees of small and medium-sized enterprises of many nationalities. It has more than 2,000 corporate clients, covering 300,000 members in 194 countries worldwide. At present, the group has four regional headquarters: Paris, Calgary, Dubai and Shanghai.

The firm has approximately 600 corporate clients and 16,500 individual clients residing in Southeast Asia. With the opening of this new office in Bangkok, it aims to offer better proximity to its members living in Southeast Asia.

The Thai unit, established as an insurance broker company, will provide a range of products and services including International Private Medical Insurance, or IPMI, for globally mobile individuals and SMEs and customised solutions for medium-to-large companies, non-profit organisations and international organisations.

According to Paul-Dominique, the key strength of MSH International in Thailand is its proximity to its customers in Southeast Asia. This is absolutely essential because it allows much greater responsiveness to the clients' needs - whether it is a question about the contract, a request for hospital admission or an urgent query regarding the reimbursement amount.

The members of MSH International can also benefit from its extensive medical network of 750,000 healthcare providers, including more than 5,000 hospitals and health practitioners worldwide outside the USA.
