Alliance Francaise Bangkok presents "The Sophie Alour Trio in Concert" at its auditorium on Nov 29 starting at 7.30pm.

French saxophonist Sophie Alour will lead her jazz trio in a concert at Alliance Francaise Bangkok on Nov 29 at 7.30pm.

As part of its Asian tour, the jazz trio comprises Sophie Alour and features, on bass, Sylvain Romano who played on her Insulaire album and Frederic Pasqua, her new drummer.

They will be blending standard jazz sounds and original compositions with rock beats in this eclectic programme. Jazz musician Sophie taught herself the saxophone and made her debut on stage with the Vintage Orchestra band in 2000.

That same year, she set up a sextet with French jazz musician Stephane Belmondo before joining Christophe Dal Sasso's Big Band with which she recorded the Overture album. In 2005, she recorded her first album, Insulaire, which met with critical acclaim, followed two years later by the Uncaged album which earned her the Django d'Or, one of Europe's most prestigious jazz awards.

Earlier this year, she released her fourth album La Geographie Des Reves, or The Geography Of Dreams, on which she plays the saxophone along with other instruments. Tickets cost 400 baht (250 baht for students and members) can be purchased from Alliance Francaise's library (closed on Monday).
